Pedestrian Bridge over the Sihl River
Zurich, Switzerland
Competition 2004
2nd Place
In a two-stage competition, we were given a study mandate after a successful pre-qualification and along with three other teams. Each of the teams consisted of architects and engineers respectively. The task was complex as the bridge had to cross the train profile and the river in a single sweep and provide four access points for pedestrians, bikes, and wheelchairs and include elevators besides. Our bridge is a Kunstbau, a civil engineering structure, and a building at the same time. It is also a workpiece, a uniform three-dimensional shape seemingly cast in wood, steel, and light.
